Apartments & Houses for Rent
Whether you plan to stay in Bozeman for a few months, as a student going to the University, or plan to stay even longer, the area offers the complete spectrum of long-term rental housing.
Area & Orientation
Considerations when looking for a long term rental include type of neighborhood, proximity to schools or Montana State University, city or country living, and type of housing, i.e. a townhouse, condo, single family dwelling on a city lot, or a property in the surrounding area.
The Bridger Mountains are to the northeast, the Tobacco Root Mountains to the west, the Big Belt Mountains and Horseshoe Hills to the north, the Gallatin Range to the south and the Spanish Peaks of the northern Madison Range to the southwest. Bozeman is east of the continental divide, and Interstate 90 passes through the city.
The area to the southwest of the city is comprised of older homes and is close to the University of Montana. Newer subdivisions can be found on the western edge of town.
There are also rental opportunities in the historic district of downtown and some properties for rent in the outlying areas.
Public Transportation in Bozeman
If you find yourself in Bozeman without a vehicle, or if you’d rather not drive your own vehicle around while staying in town, you can use the Streamline Bus System.
Streamline routes provide service to and from Bozeman, Belgrade, Four Corners, Livingston and seasonal routes for Bridger Bowl. Streamline also connects with the Skyline Bus System for travel to and from Big Sky.
When to Rent
Montana State University has an annual enrollment of over 12,000 students. This affects the long-term rental market. If you are looking for a more reasonable rate on any rental property, it would be best to plan your stay in Bozeman to coincide with the times when school is already in session or when students have either already acquired housing or when they plan to move out for the summer.
Average Rental Rates
Rental rates vary according to type of property, length of stay and location (neighborhood). Belgrade, for example, offers lower cost housing, on average than does downtown Bozeman. Yet, there are some neighborhoods within Belgrade that offer upscale-oriented services, which may cause some of those rates to be more than other neighborhoods in the Bozeman city limits. As with any market, it is all about supply and demand.
Long-term rental can range from $450.00 per month for a studio apartment to $1500.00 per month for a four bedroom, 2 bathroom single family dwelling.
Regardless of your budget or the length of time you wish to stay in the Bozeman area, you will be able to find exactly what you are looking for.
