Brighton and Snowbird are in Big Cottonwood canyon, the next canyon to the north. Day trip Cross-county skiing and snowshoeing options are also plentiful around the Salt Lake area.
Another interesting day trip is a visit to the Salt Flats and Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. The island is reachable by boat and many people sunbathe and hike on its shores. Spanning 28,022 acres, Antelope Island is home to many species of native flora and fauna. Bobcats, deer, coyotes, elk, and bison can all be found on the island.
