Fly Fishing

Though fishing in Montana can take on many tactics (such as spin-casting, trolling or the use of bait with the kids), no where in America is it more enjoyable than to try the "art of fly fishing" then when enjoying a vacation to our region.  As the experts say, "once you try fly fishing, you're hooked for life".

LIVINGSTON, MONTANA - A MECCA FOR TROUT FISHING

Southwestern Montana has long been a mecca for trout fishing in the United States. Rivers such as the Yellowstone, Madison, Gallatin, and Big Hole conjure up images of the dedicated angler battling strong fighting fish beneath snow capped peaks.

If there is a central location for fishing in Montana, Livingston is it. Situated along the banks of the mighty Yellowstone and only fifty-two miles to the north entrance of Yellowstone Park, Livingston saw its first fly shop open in 1938 and ever since has been at the forefront of modern fly fishing.

The Yellowstone River, from its exit from Yellowstone National Park through the town of Big Timber, has over a hundred miles of water that offers world class trout fishing. Its fish population is a healthy mix of rainbow, browns, and Yellowstone cutthroat trout.

Protective regulations, and ever watchful residents ensure that this bountiful ecosystem will always remain intact for all to enjoy. Every year countless anglers come to sample the bounties that the river has to offer, and each time they leave tired and satisfied, but ready to come back for more.
Paradise Valley, just south of Livingston, not only has the Yellowstone River, but also world famous spring creeks and stillwaters. The fishing is so popular on those waters that many of the peak times are booked months in advance. Anglers from all over the world make a pilgrimage each year to compete with the highly educated rainbows and browns that inhabit these waters.
