Gallatin Speedway
You won't see Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt, Jr. whizzing around the track or burning rubber in the winner's circle, but you will find energizing entertainment as amateur race car drivers try to live their dreams at the Gallatin Speedway. From the speed of pit crews changing tires to the occasional nudge to the rear bumper to the ferocious roar of the race cars engines, the Gallatin Speedway is a chance to see top-notch automotive action from a viewing distance that makes you feel like you're in the driver's seat. more info
Located in Belgrade, Montana , which is minutes from downtown Bozeman on I-90, the Gallatin Speedway is a 3/8-mile, semi-banked clay oval track that hosts Modified, Super-Stock and Street Stock class races. A member of the WISSOTA, which is the sanctioning organization of this particular style of race car driving, the Gallatin Speedway holds races from late-May through mid-September. As you have probably already guessed, no, the monetary stakes aren't in the least bit comparable to the Daytona 500 or Indy 500, but those skilled divers who push their cars limits and run at max revs to cross the finish line first can earn upwards of $400 in weekly driver payoffs.
Known for its loud, yet cozy atmosphere and family related fun, the Gallatin Speedway offers something for the beginner to the advanced race car enthusiast. With a majority of the racer's hailing from the state, the speedway is basically the modern-era's rodeo with its local feel, support and sponsorship. Attracting less hype than some of the more well known racing sites around the country, a race at the Gallatin Speedway is a must see if you are traveling through the area looking to extinguish some evening boredom or just want to see someone else drive besides yourself. And, with such a noteworthy racing venue, you are bound to see race cars and their drivers absorb more dents than the outside walls of Talladega on any given night.
