Overview

The Museum of the Rockies is Montana's most visited museum, internationally renowned for its paleontology program, led by Dr. Jack Horner, who significantly influenced the 1993, Academy Award-winning feature film, Jurassic Park. MOR exhibits, educational programs, and original research focus on the natural and cultural history of American's Northern Rockies for the last 4 billion years.

MOR features the popular Taylor Planetarium, a 40-foot, 104-seat domed theater that delivers inspiring, entertaining, and educational theater show. Also on site are a 19th century “living history farm,” a textile collection spanning 1850 to the 1960s, photo archives, Native American history artifacts, as well as a museum gift shop. MOR is a Smithsonian affiliate and accredited by the American Association of Museums.

Directions

From US HWY I-90, exit 19th Avenue and continue south about 4 miles on 19th Avenue to Kagy Boulevard, turn left and follow signs to museum.

Hours

  • Memorial Day through Labor Day:
    8 am to 8 pm all week with planetarium shows all day
  • During the rest of the year:
    9 am to 5 pm Monday through Saturday
    Sunday from 12:30 pm to 5 pm.
  • Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day

Admission fee is good for two consecutive days.
